Social media has become a powerful force shaping the way people interact, express themselves, and stay informed. Whether through reels, stories, or instant messages, it plays a central role in daily life. To better understand its impact on modern society, 3rd semester BCA students from Malabar College of Arts and Science, Moodadi, conducted a survey titled “Behind the Feed.” The aim was to explore how social media influences people emotionally, socially, and behaviourally. The survey included around 100 participants ranging in age from 15 to 80 years, offering insights across generations.
The survey results revealed that Instagram is the most frequently used platform, especially among younger users, with most respondents spending 1 to 3 hours daily on social media. Many participants agreed that life without social media would be difficult, highlighting its deep integration into everyday routines. Respondents noted that short video content helped them retain information better, but also admitted to negative effects such as time wastage, sleep disturbances, and pressure to maintain an ideal online image. The survey concluded by emphasizing the importance of mindful and balanced social media use, urging users to be aware of both the benefits and the challenges of their digital lives.
