The Department of Computer Science, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Malabar College of Arts and Science, Moodadi, organized a program titled “Healthy Bite” on 11th June 2025 in connection with World Food Safety Day. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from second-year B.Sc. and BCA students and aimed to educate and empower the community with key knowledge and practices related to safe food handling and consumption, fostering a healthier and more informed society.
The initiative aimed to promote healthy food practices and create awareness on safe food handling. Students visited local households and distributed informative posters in Malayalam, highlighting simple yet essential food safety measures such as the importance of clean water, proper washing of fruits and vegetables, safe storage, and avoidance of stale or open food. Interactive sessions were also held with local vendors and shopkeepers to educate them about hygienic food preparation, handling, and storage. The program received positive feedback from the community and helped spread the message that safe food is everyone’s responsibility.
Additionally, interactive awareness sessions were conducted with local shopkeepers, tea stall vendors, and food handlers. These sessions emphasized personal hygiene, avoiding reuse of cooking oil, and safe water usage in food preparation. Visual demonstrations helped make the message more effective, especially among the elderly and less literate groups. The program also included poster displays in common public areas like ration shops and community centers. The outreach successfully encouraged behavioral changes,
reinforcing the theme of the year: “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected.”
